Safer Nanomaterials and Nanomanufacturing Initiative

Safer Nanomaterials and Nanomanufacturing Initiative

The Safer Nanomaterials and Nanomanufacturing Initiative (SNNI) is the leading green nanotechnology effort in the world and ONAMI’s largest research collaboration. ONAMI, the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute is Oregon’s first Signature Research Center created for the purpose of growing research in the areas of nanoscale science and microtechnologies, and accelerating job growth from commercialization of that research.

SNNI is a thriving collaboration involving faculty and researchers from UO, OSU, PSU and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory who aim to ensure that the emerging field of nanotechnology develops responsibly, providing new techologies that are inherently safer (greener) by design, in order to protect health, the environment, and the workforce.

The SNNI is the nation's leader in research, education (recognized as the exemplary program for undergraduate, graduate and public education in the nation) and public policy (acting as a primary consultant to the U.S. Congress on leading nanotechnology legislation). Our holistic approach is a cost effective, win-win strategy that benefits society, protects the environment and saves industry money.
