The University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking an expert in the of areas of Micro and Nanofabrication technologies to direct the Nanotechnology Core Research Facility located within the College of Engineering and jointly managed by the Research Resources Center (RRC).
The core director will oversee the operations of the Nanotechnology core facility and will conduct research by developing new protocols and processes to optimize the characterization and fabrication of nanomaterials. The director will define research projects, carry out his/her own research projects, and train other lab personnel in the operation of various techniques and research equipment. This individual will develop and implement new resources for advanced data analysis, and will lead or assist in the preparation and submission of shared instrumentation and other grant applications, as well as broadening the user base to include other colleges at UIC and local industry. The Core Director reports to the Director of the RRC, and is responsible for the facility’s management, including budget allocation of resources, billing for services rendered, and the hiring, training and supervision of facility personnel.

Applicants are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Nanomanufacturing Measurement and Process Control of Diblock Copolymers. The objectives of the research are to develop models to simulate the electromagnetic response of diblock materials as a function of domain size and morphology in both the near- and far-field regimes and to apply those models to the development of non-contact, high-speed, optical measurement methods for nanostructure characterization in roll-to-roll manufacturing. Carbon Nanofluidics is discipline that grows rapidly nowadays. It studies unique nanoscale phenomena of molecular mass transport under sub-10-nanometer channels. We focus on fundamental nanoscience based on carbon nanomaterials for energy and clean technology applications such as solar energy harvesting, fuel cells, batteries and water desalination/treatment. By employing multiscale nano-micro-manufacturing techniques, we will make functional devices with nanomaterials and use the platform to explore the basic nanoscience and to apply the obtained knowledge to important areas of energy and clean technologies. Different areas of research based on common platforms will enable multiple Ph.D. students to collaborate one another for their own independent research topic.
