Post-Doctoral Research Associates for the Molecular Foundry
The Molecular Foundry at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Labs) has a number of openings for post-doctoral research associates in all areas of nanoscience.
The Foundry is one of five U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Nanoscale Science Research Centers (NSRCs), premier national user facilities for interdisciplinary research at the nanoscale. Together the NSRCs comprise a suite of complementary facilities that provide researchers with state-of-the-art capabilities to fabricate, process, characterize and model nanoscale materials, and constitute the largest infrastructure investment of the National Nanotechnology Initiative.
The Foundry is actively seeking post-doctoral researchers with experience across a broad spectrum of nanoscience to address challenges in energy, electronics, health and engineering. Six interdependent facilities within the Foundry engage in multidisciplinary research in nanointerfaces, combinatorial nanoscience, multimodal in situ nanoimaging and spectroscopy, and single-digit nanofabrication:
- Imaging and Manipulation of Nanostructures (characterization of nanostructures)
- Nanofabrication (advanced lithographic and thin-film processing techniques)
- Inorganic Nanostructures (science of semiconductor, carbon and hybrid nanostructures)
- Organic and Macromolecular Synthesis (studies of ?soft" materials: organic molecules, macromolecules, polymers and their assemblies)
- Biological Nanostructures (new bio-materials; new probes for bio-imaging; synthetic biology techniques to nanostructures created by living cells)
- Theory of Nanostructured Materials (theoretical studies to guide understanding of new principles, behavior and experiments)
Qualifications
- Recent Ph.D. in materials science, physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, or a related field as relevant to specific opportunity.
- Critical analysis and communication skills recognized through research publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Along with relevant experience, successful candidates should have demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and to communicate ideas and results effectively.
