RTI's Nanomaterial Registry Seeks Partners on Data Analysis
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – RTI is expanding the utility of its Nanomaterial Registry by partnering with research organizations, universities, and industry in the nanomaterial research community to answer important questions on the connections between nanomaterial physical and chemical characteristics and nanomaterial benefits and risks.
The Nanomaterial Registry, available free to the public at www.nanomaterialregistry.org, is a growing, central resource for well-characterized nanomaterials and studies on their biological and environmental implications.
"The Registry is intended to be a tool for the entire nanomaterial community," said Michele Ostraat, Ph.D., senior director of the Center for Aerosol and Nanomaterials Engineering at RTI and the project's principal investigator. "The more user groups that partner with the Nanomaterial Registry to both add to and analyze the data, the more relevant the information will be for researchers and decision makers."
The Nanomaterial Registry website allows users to search, browse and compare data on the characteristics of a wide variety of nanomaterials, including some commonly used in consumer and medical products, including carbon nanotubes and silver and titania nanoparticles.
New data analysis partners would have exclusive access to a tailored export of data on more than 1000 unique nanomaterials for collective analysis that seeks to determine associations between nanomaterial characteristics, benefits, and potential risks to humans or the environment.
The data currently available in the Registry are from a broad range of manufacturers and academic and federal researchers.
This Registry has been funded with federal funds from the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering and the following partners: the National Institute of Environmental and Health Sciences, and the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services, under Contract No. HHSN268201000022C.
