Self-Perfection by Liquefaction

Nanostructures Laboratory, Princeton University: Researchers at Princeton University have announced a new method for removing imperfections in nanostructures in the May 4 issue of Nature Nanotechnology.
Stephen Y. Chou and Qiangfei Xia have developed a method that removes fabrication defects in nanostructures called Self-Perfection by Liquefaction, which suggests a shift in conventional efforts to improve the shape and performance of nanostructures. "Rather than improving a nanostructure by improving its original fabrication method ... self-perfection by liquefaction (SPEL) removes nanostructure fabrication defects and improves nanostructures after fabrication."
