Recent focus on global warming resulted in expediting efforts to reduce environmental impacts of energy production, storage and transmission. The "Green Energy" covers all these aspects and provides renewable energy from least-polluting sources. New innovative technologies are needed to accomplish this goal and harness the geothermal, wind, solar, hydro and nuclear power efficiently. Recent advances in the areas of fuel cells, solar cells, hydrogen storage systems, supercapacitors, lithium ion batteries, biological energy harvesting systems and thermoelectric devices provide hope for a better future towards greener energy at the global level. The newly formed department of energy science (DOES) at Sungkyunkwan Univeristy (SKKU) in collaboration with Korean Carbon Society will be conducting the first international conference on "Nanocarbons for Green Energy" by the financial support from Jeollabukdo state and Jeonju city, the Center of Carbon Valley. This three day event in the beautiful and traditional Jeonju area of South Korea will be held during Nov. 3-6, 2009 and will provide state of the art presentations from internationally known scientists and engineers working on energy. In addition, a panel discussion at the end of the meeting will provide guidelines for research and development towards greener energy. Jeonju Jeollabuk-do, South Korea |
