10th Symposium on Advanced Materials Science and Nanotechnology (SCiMAN10)

Conference
Monday, December 7, 2015 to Wednesday, December 9, 2015

SCiMAN10 will be the tenth annual symposium organized by the Programa Institucional en Ciencia e Ingeniería de Materiales, PICIMA (Materials Science and Engineering Institutional Program), entity that groups the Centro de Investigación en Ciencia e Ingeniería de Materiales, CICIMA (Materials Science and Engineering Research Center), the Centro de Electroquímica y Energía Química, CELEQ (Electrochemistry and Chemical Energy Center) and the Centro de Investigación en Estructuras Microscópicas, CIEMIC (Microscopic Structures Research Center), all belonging to the Universidad de Costa Rica at San José, Costa Rica. It represents an effort to provide to the local and regional scientific and engineering community a place to share results obtained from the research activity in materials science and engineering as well as nanotechnology. Most of the presenters are scientists, engineers and students belonging to local and international universities or laboratories.

The topics usually covered by past symposia were, among others, hot topics like soft condensed matter, biomaterials, composites, nanostructured semiconductors, polymers and graphene. Apart from the local public universities (Universidad de Costa Rica, Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica), lecturers from other international institutions have already presented: Laboratório Nacional de Luz Síncrotron (LNLS-Campinhas, Brazil), Institut de Ciència de Materials (Barcelona, Spain), Universiteit Leiden (The Netherlands), Centro Atómico Bariloche e Instituto Balseiro (Bariloche, Argentina), Universidad de Alicante (Alicante, Spain), Leibniz-Institut für Festkörper- und Werkstoffforschung (Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research-Dresden, Germany), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM-Madrid, Spain), Universidad Nacional de la Plata (UNLP-La Plata, Argentina), Sapienza-Università di Roma (Rome, Italy), Freie Universität (Berlin, Germany), Chalmers Institute of Technology (Gothenburg, Sweden), Centro Nacional de Biotecnología (CNB/CSIC-Madrid, Spain), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, USA), Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Seoul, South Korea) and Intel Corporation.
