SGT has the expertise and experience in developing high performance materials and products through innovative applications of nanotechnology. “Nanotechnology” is the design, production (synthesis) and application of nanomaterials and nanostructures in advanced macrosystems. Materials reduced to the nanoscale (1x10-9 meter) show very different properties compared to what they exhibit on a macro-scale thereby enabling unique applications. It is possible to produce ultra-strong and ultra-light multifunctional materials through nanotechnology.
The synthesis of nanomaterials and nanostructures is a critical component of nanotechnology. Development of advanced synthesis techniques to produce nanomaterials by cost effective processes is very essential for the nanoproducts to be economically competitive with products produced by other traditional and established methodologies.
SGT has a team of scientists and technologists who have the required experience, skills and training to develop innovative solutions based on nanomaterials and nanotechnology. SGT is actively developing and commercializing proprietary technologies. These include:
- Development of novel synthesis processes to produce nanomaterials, such as
Helically coiled carbon nanotubes
Continuous Double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWNT), single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) yarns for energy storage and structural applications
Coatings of helically coiled carbon nanotubes (CCNT) on cotton yarn/fabrics for electromagnetic shielding applications
Technology transfer, scale-up, and commercial scale production of nanomaterials
- Production of nanocrystalline carbide powders for cutting tool manufacture, wear resistant coatings, polymer composites
- Production of nanoiron oxide coated filtration media for water filtration, in-situ remediation of hazardous ground water contaminants
- Production of nanocrystalline coatings for enhancing corrosion resistance, wear resistance, oxidation resistance of metal
