Center for Quantum Photonics, University of Bristol: UK Researchers Jeremy O'Brien and Albert Politi have successfully demonstrated a silica-on-silicon quantum photonic circuit. Their findings were published in Science Express on March 27, 2008.

Quantum optical circuits typically rely on large optical elements. By refining key circuits with  silica-on-silicon technologies that are used in commercial optical technologies, O'Brien and Politi have enabled "impressive minituraization" of quantum circuits. This advance will contribute to the goal of quantum computing.
